Diverse media stand together to send firm message to House
United Editorial for Sensible and Humane Immigration Reform

NEW YORK — Media representing readerships and audiences throughout the nation are strongly urging Congress to produce a workable policy solution that will resolve the legal limbo of millions of undocumented immigrants.

Beginning today, El Diario, La Opinion, New America Media, Irish Echo, Bangla Patrika, Daily Khabrain, Nowy Dziennik, Primera Hora and a growing list of media are publishing a
joint editorial. This initiative emerged out of great concern about the reform debate and the direction of emerging legislation.

The editorial states:

“In these weeks, the issue of border security has been allowed to dominate the discourse around reform. We understand that controls at the border are needed. However, the conversation around immigration reform doesn’t begin and end at the border. And this two-step process that many Republicans are obsessed with – that legalization must be conditioned on a military border complex– is the same delay tactic they have been using for years.”

The editorial —which Latino, Irish, Polish, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi media, among others based in the United States— have committed to publishing— warns of the political implications for legislators who choose to undermine the chances of constructive reform, adding “We expect both parties to show leadership for a workable policy solution that sets up immigrants, and in turn, our nation, for success.  In the meantime, we stand ready to bring great attention to who leads, and who works against this process.”
